Monica "Dr. mOe" Anderson, DDS
is a reknowned motivational speaker, author, journalist, publisher, and
Doctor of Dental Surgery. Her highly anticipated new release I
Stand Accused is already a Dallas Morning News bestseller.
Her debut novel, When
A Sistah's Fed Up, was a national bestseller in
2006. She has also authored two non-fiction books: Black
English Vernacular and Mom, Are We There Yet? Her
short stories and poetry are included in several anthologies.
Her Bachelor of Arts degree bears the gold seal of Baylor University,
and her doctorate is from the University of Minnesota School of
Dentistry.
In 1996, this Texas native became the first African-American columnist
for the Arlington Star-Telegram. She
was a weekly columnist for a major daily newspaper, the Fort
Worth Star-Telegram for seven years, writing over
four-hundred columns while practicing dentistry full-time. Her
editorials have appeared in newspapers across the country, including:
the Seattle Times, the
San Jose Mercury News, Dallasblack.com, the
Minnesota Viking Update and the Courier-Journal
of Louisville, KY. In 1999, the staff of the Fort
Worth Weekly named her “Best Columnist”
in Tarrant County.
Dr. mOe also served as host and producer of Perpetual
Moe-tion, a weekly cable television talk show. She is a
graduate of Leadership Arlington and a former member of the Junior
Leagues of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Arlington, Texas. She is a third
generation member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
She is the
recipient of numerous awards, including: Outstanding Young Women of
America, the "Distinguished Black Alumni Award" from the Baylor Black
Alumni Association, the "Outstanding Young Alumni" Award from the
Alumni Association of Baylor University, the Distinguished Alumni Award
from the Fort Worth Independent School District, and the Millennium
Award for Medicine from Altrusa International, Inc.
Dr. mOe lives in Arlington, Texas. She has two extraordinarily handsome
sons and a pathetic pet plant named Ivy. In her spare time, she enjoys
sleeping.
